Let’s be honest, navigating the road of a pandemic has been anything but straightforward. The path has definitely changed along the way, but what has not changed is our commitment to doing whatever it takes to balance safety and wellbeing. It goes without saying … our business is caring for seniors, but how we choose to go about it is what we think makes us stand out. It’s not magic; it’s merely maintaining focus on what’s important, and working together is how we do it.

We can honestly say that there has never been a time to be prouder of our team. Our days are filled with the re-telling of the moments that touch our hearts, overcoming the challenges in our path, and encouraging each other to keep it up. We may not be perfect, but we think we are pretty darn good and proud of it.

Stronger Together

The day will come when we will reflect on this pandemic period as a distant memory. For now, our focus remains on learning from the challenges along with the experts at the CDC and Department of Public Health. We take those learnings and continuously re-focus our protocols and training. We are stronger than ever, and our diligence has served us well.

What a perfect time to tout the benefits of the Household Model. We continue to prioritize “Life as usual” at Camellia Place. Our Household Model allows us to self-isolate to a House, not a room, with the guidance around diligent social distancing. No large dining rooms means Residents continue to eat in their homes and eat together. The myriad of settings means activities continue in full swing both in the house and outside areas. Best of all, visitation options are many and have continued throughout this journey. Bottom-line, a pandemic may alter how we do things, but at Camellia Place, “life as usual” is a priority that we deliver.

Vaccine Roll-Out

Community relations pay off in a big way when a pandemic strikes. Thanks to Woodstock Pharmacy for their support in accessing the first availability of vaccines. Our first round began in December, and multiple rounds have occurred since. We are proud to say that 92% of Camellia Place Residents are vaccinated.

Plan and Deliver …. A Comprehensive Approach

We are committed to adapting whatever is needed to meet the challenges of today. As long as they are required, our protection and prevention procedures will remain in effect, including testing, visitor protocols, social distancing, mask-wearing, and sanitization. If we have any reason to suspect COVID-19, rest assured we have protocols defined and prepared to put into place.

Screening … one thing for sure, all of us at Camellia Place can truthfully say we have never had our temperature taken so much. It’s our first line of defense in identifying symptoms that might be indicative of the virus, but just the first step. If health concerns arise with any of our Residents, we are prepared to coordinate medical evaluation to determine the potential cause and coordinate care. In most cases, it has nothing to do with COVID-19, but if we have any reason to suspect COVID-19, rest assured we have protocols defined and prepared to put in place.

It’s not just about us; our families and visitors are important but protecting our Residents is the top priority. That means some restrictions, but nothing that prevents quality time together in a safe and effective way. Before entering our community, each visitor must have their temperature taken and wear appropriate protective equipment to ensure their protection and the safety of our Residents.

As to team members, if they feel ill, they are instructed not to come to work. If they become ill while on duty, they are sent home and monitored for the cause. Return to work guidelines are in place for a wide variety of illnesses, including CDC guidelines for COVID-19.

Testing … Residents and team members receive testing before joining our family. For widespread surveillance, we conduct PCR testing in conjunction with the Department of Public Health. For diagnostics, we coordinate specimen collection and rapid result reporting. Isolation protocols are in place and tailored to ensure the safety of all Residents and Team Members.

Preventive measures … Camellia Place maintains an ample supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including masks, gloves, gowns, and hand sanitizer. We provide training on proper use and maintain continual vigilance to ensure compliance. For the team at Camellia Place, wearing a mask is what we need to do to keep our residents safe, so our team has them on anytime they are in the Houses and caring for Residents. That means that our Residents do not need to. This is how we have chosen to keep them protected and, more importantly, how we have chosen to keep them comfortable.

Connections that Count

We consider both our team members and families to be part of our essential caregiving team. One thing that is clearer than ever is the importance of being one family with a singular goal of adding life to years. Together we support each other in whatever is needed to ensure all residents are safe, well cared for, and content. Trust and peace of mind form the connections that count, and to that end, we want all to be equally informed. Rest assured, if a Camellia Place team member or Resident is confirmed with COVID-19, the individual’s privacy will be protected, but we will be transparent in communication.
